RENDERED IN BLACK MARKER PEN AND BLUE PENCIL BY DR. SEUSS, A STUNNING ORIGINAL MARKETING/ADVERT CAMPAIGN DRAWING. The bold vibrant art depicts “Sam” from “GREEN EGGS AND HAM” holding a tray of Green Eggs and Ham, and was rendered circa 1965. Signed by Dr. Seuss “Dr. Seuss” lower right. Accompanied by two letters of authenticity with added notes on provenance/chain of custody. UNFRAMED
The art is in fine condition and has been matted to a completed size of 17″ x 13.75″. The art sheet as described per the provenance is 13.5″ x 11″. UNFRAMED.
This spectacular original art was originally drawn by Dr. Seuss for a marketing/adverting campaign and was purchased by the previous owner directly from the American printer who was gifted it by the artist (Dr. Seuss). We have held this piece for over 10 years. The art will be accompanied by two letters of authenticity in addition to provenance including a chain of custody statement. NOTE-VERY FEW ORIGINAL AUTHENTICATED PIECES OF ART BY DR. SEUSS EVER COME UP FOR SALE. Rendered in vibrant black felt tip, the character was faintly blocked in blue pencil a technique used during the 60’s and 70’s (blue does not show when the art is used for production). Another such example of a faintly blocked blue line image by Dr. Seuss shows in the archives of Heritage auction house in a Seuss original auctioned in 2002.
The main message of the story Green Eggs and Ham is to be open to trying new things, because you might be surprised by what you enjoy, even if it seems unappealing at first. Other messages include not judging things prematurely, the value of persistence, and being thankful for new experiences.
