An absolutely superb, adorable drawing of the 'disagreeable old professor of Maths'. This stunningly final detailed piece depicts the elder mouse, with eye glasses, holding his cane and sitting on a box of safety matches. This original drawing by Garth Williams was published in the second book of the Rescuer series “Miss Bianca” and is rendered in black ink on light card stock. A highly detailed drawing, and absolutely fun to study the details. SIGNED by Garth Williams twice, once in the lower right corner along with the publisher's notes which run along the lower edge; and once on the verso of the art. (The vast majority of William’s art for this book were not even signed as they were only intended to be published in a book). A Stunning piece from this book depicting a fantastic whimsical character.
Presented newly matted, framed and glazed in a rubbed rustic grey wood frame. Framed using all archival materials and UV glass.

The art was purchased from an auction house in 2012, who in turn acquired this piece direct from the estate of Garth Williams. Each piece is an original and sold directly from his estate. A copy of the original invoice will be included with each piece, and will provide both provenance and authenticity for the art.
The art is in excellent condition
**Garth Williams was a prominent illustrator of several of the most prominent children’s books including Stuart Little (1945), Charlotte’s Web (1952), The Cricket In Times Square, and The Rescuers (1959). Many of his original illustrations from these book have sold attaining high premiums, including his original illustration of the dust jacket for Charlotte’s Web which realized $155,000 at auction in 2010, and between $10,000 and $75,000 for original artwork of the interior pages. Other notable auction pricing of Williams original illustrations include sales of the original artwork for the interior pages of Stuart Little which also averaged in the $15,000 range per piece.
