First Edition, First Printing, First State Jacket: A lovely near fine/very good plus copy of this title in the first printing, FIRST STATE dust jacket. Beautiful clean near fine book with a very good plus/near fine FIRST STATE vibrant original dust jacket. With all relevant issue points, including original price (in the correct place on the flap, the dollar sign is above the shoulder of the letter “R” instead of being on the heel of the “R”), Salinger’s hair touching the upper edge of the rear panel, and the “First Edition” statement on the copyright page.
The book has black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, which are a bit oxidized. The book has sharp corners, with one very tiny tip bump, and no edgewear. The binding is tight and square. The interior pages are clean, and unusually bright, with no marks, no stains, no handling marks, no foxing, no bent pages and no writing The end papers are clean with faint ghosting from a removed bookplate. Otherwise, no owner names, and no inscriptions. An overall solid, beautiful, clean book.
The original first edition, FIRST STATE jacket is the correct first issue with the cropping of Salinger’s head on the rear panel, with Salinger’s hair barely touching the upper edge and the correct placement of the price on the front flap. The jacket was professional reinforced along all the fold-lines and edges by an expert paper restorationist, and presents in near fine condition. The jacket has strong vibrant colors with only very slight sunning to the spine. The jacket has no edgewear, no chips, no stains, no rubbing, no rips, no fading and no foxing. The dust jacket is NOT Price clipped and has a stated price of $3.00 on the inside front flap, and is the FIRST state with no space above Salinger’s head. Please see detailed images.
