"Ah, Halloween's finest trick or treaters!" Lock, Shock, and Barrel (collectively known as Boogie's Boys) are the inconsequential adversaries in Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Voiced by Paul Reubens, Catherine O'Hara and Danny Elfman, the mischievous trio of trick-or-treaters from Halloween Town also serve as Oogie Boogie's henchmen and were responsible for kidnapping Sandy Claws. This concept art is from the hand of famed story man Jorgen Klubien and was one of the more rare pieces which is signed "J Klubien". Graphite with watercolor on 8.5" x 5.5" paper. Minor handling and edge wear, pinholes in corners. Fine condition.
The storyboarding process, in the form it is known today, was developed at Walt Disney Studios during the early 1930s, after several years of similar processes being in use at Walt Disney and other animation studios. Jorgen Klubien’s impact on the narrative can’t be understated, and his impact on the film is showcased in his remarkable storyboards.
The Nightmare Before Christmas originated in a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982, while he was working as an animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation. Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco; Disney released the film through its Touchstone Pictures banner because the studio believed the film would be “too dark and scary for kids”. The film was met with both critical and financial success, grossing over $76 million during its initial run. This stop-motion masterpiece was the first animated film to receive an Academy Award Nomination for Best Visual Effects! The film has since been reissued by Walt Disney Pictures, and was re-released annually in Disney Digital 3-D from 2006 until 2009, making it the first stop-motion animated feature to be entirely converted to 3D
PROVENANCE: This storyboard drawing was rendered by Disney artist Jorgen Klubien in graphite with watercolors. The art was purchased from the premier collectibles auction house consigned to sell numerous pieces of Disney story board/concept art. A copy of the original invoice will be included, and will provide both provenance and authenticity for the art. As common with production art, the piece is not signed as the origin of the art is for the purpose of making a film.
