A spectacular Andy Warhol hand SIGNED page from the book, Vanishing Animals, paired and framed together with one of the stunning color plates featuring the “Sumatra's Rhinoceros". The page is signed in black felt tip in full signature "Andy Warhol", and is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.

The art is in fine condition with the art plate originating from the book "Vanishing Animals" which depicted Warhol’s originals. This one depicts Warhol’s "Sumatra's Rhinoceros".
PROVENANCE: The art was originally from color plate within the book "Vanishing Animals" of which Warhol had signed the book on the title page. The two were framed together and the piece will come with a Certificate of Authenticity (LOA/COA), PSA/DNA.
Created by Warhol in 1986, the outstanding set of Vanishing Animals comprised of sixteen unique silkscreens over paper collage on board. The originals were issued in very small quantities and are very rarely found signed. The originals are also smaller in size ranging from about 14 to 18 inches. As with his numerous society portraits, and as in his prior series Endangered Species (1983), Warhol here presents the animals as "celebrities.".
“Vanishing Animals” reflects a powerful, ongoing interest in and passion for environmental activism as the artist’s life and career progressed. Each work showcases a different and meticulously crafted colorway and approach to composition, alluding to the time and care Warhol took to not only capture the likeness of each animal but raise them to an almost mythological status—one that can be interpreted as a metaphor for the animal’s possible fate.
Warhol produced a series of prints of animals to illustrate ‘Vanishing Animals’, a book by the German-born, American pathologist and geneticist, Kurt Benirschke. The book has fifteen chapters, each concentrating on one animal of a lesser-known species that was critically endangered. This signed plate features one of the prints – a bat. He has incorporated blocks of irregularly shaped colour, which, although screenprinted, appear like collaged fragments of coloured paper. In combining this with hand-drawn lines (also printed), the works appear more expressive than many of his earlier prints. This project (alongside his 1983 portfolio ‘Endangered Species’) shows Warhol’s awareness of and interest in environmental issues. These works appeared circa 1986.
