THE ART IS IN FINE CONDITION AND WAS CUSTOM MATTED, FRAMED AND GLAZED to 17.5″ x 16.25″. A VERY STUNNING PIECE!

This great piece is an original large felt tip drawing of a bear by Ralph Steadman who embellished his artwork across a page in the book “Teddy Where Are You”. Steadman signed the piece within the body of the bear’s chest as “Ralph Steadman″. Steadman also incorporated the fly leaf page decor to be within the head of the bear. A fantastic piece. The size of the artwork by sight is 8.75″ x 7.25″ and was custom matted, framed and glazed, presented in a gloss black frame. The completed frame size is 17.5″ x 16.25″. Has a fantastic presentation on the wall. Steadman is renowned for his political and social caricatures, original art by him is quite scarce. The art will be accompanied by a Letter Of Authenticity by James Spence, LLC.

CONDITION: Both the art and the frame are in fine condition.

Ralph Steadman was thrown into the spotlight during his artistic period with Hunter S. Thompson when he collaborated on the birth of GONZO journalism with his classic black humor illustrations for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and the Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved. His work appeared in countless publications, among them The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Independent, The Guardian, and The Observer. He illustrated a number of literary classics, notably Alice in Wonderland, Animal Farm, Treasure Island, and Fahrenheit 451. He created the art for Flying Dog Brewery (Maryland) and cover art for records by musicians such as the Who (1967), Frank Zappa (1997), and Slash (2010). He also wrote a libretto for British composer Richard Harvey’s eco-oratorio, Plague and the Moonflower (1989), which was performed in a number of cathedrals in England. Steadman wrote several books, including Sigmund Freud (1979), I, Leonardo (1983), The Grapes of Ralph: Wine According to Ralph Steadman (1992), and Still Life with Bottle: Whiskey According to Ralph Steadman (1997).
