Frankenstein Photoplay Edition In Original Scarce Jacket- Mary Shelley

frank.1 (447 x 600)

Grosset and Dunlap, 1931

First photoplay edition One of the rarest photoplay editions, including illustrations from scenes from the Universal production starring Boris Karloff. The book comes with the scarce original dust jacket in near fine vibrant condition.

A fine/near fine condition book, appearing as unread with fresh, supple, bright pages, a deep green top stain and vibrant red boards still retaining their original sheen with a soft slight line dent (does not even show in the images). Bright, unfaded titles to front and spine. This is most unusual as this book typically has a brittle and splitting spine, often with large rips to the cloth, and edgeworn boards. This book has sharp corners, and no edgewear. The top stain is still a deep green tone without the typical fading. The red boards are clean and bright. The interior pages are still supple (also rare to find as the paper was not of high quality and tended to brown and turn brittle). The end papers are clean with no owner names, no inscriptions and no bookplates. The interior pages have no writing, no stains, no age toning, and no foxing. Beautiful clean, crisp book appearing as unread. Please see images for details.

The book comes the scarce original rare dust jacket having benefited from some slight professional restoration by an expert paper conservator. The jacket presents in near fine condition with strong vibrant colors with no rips, no chips, no edgewear, no stains and no foxing. Toning to the rear panel and spine as usual for this jacket. The reverse side of the jacket has the requisite text ads listing the Grosset and Dunlap publications. Stunning, handsome jacket presenting the book beautifully on the shelf. The dust jacket is protected in a new clear removeable archival cover. Please see detailed images.

Copies of this title in this condition, and with an original dust jacket are one the the most scarce of photoplays. Perfect for the collector/investor of rare pieces in the photoplay or horror genre.
